How Mantra Meditation Benefits You?

According to Wikipedia, “Meditation was first developed in India, a very long time ago. The oldest documented evidence of the practice of meditation are wall arts in the Indian subcontinent from approximately 5,000 to 3,500 BCE, showing people seated in meditative postures with half-closed eyes.” I researched a bit further and came to the conclusion that meditation has been around for 1000s of years. Whether you’re meditating for the first time or have been doing this for a long time, you will see a profound change in yourself, when you practice mantra meditation. You will realize how Mantra Meditation benefits you.

What is Mantra Meditation?

This is a colorful image of a person meditating.

For starters, lets talk about Meditation first. When I was initially introduced to the concept, it was all about training your attention and awareness through an object or an activity to achieve clarity, mentally as well as emotionally. Basically, you had to use your will power to guide you through the process of meditation and take control of your thoughts as you sat still. I know what you’re thinking, “Its impossible to stop thinking”, “I can never do that!” Then I was introduced to “Mantra Meditation”. Mantra is either a word or a phrase repeated over and over again during Meditation. You can either sing, hum, chant or simple close your eyes and focus on the words and the sounds to achieve a deeper state of consciousness.

Mantra Meditation Benefitted Me

Mantra Meditation was simpler as it gave me something to focus my mind on, whether it was a word or a phrase. Also, some mantras have specific sound frequencies that help calm your nerves down and retract all the negativities that surround your mind.

I am no expert in meditation, but some mantras have helped transform my life. It’s partially the reason I realized my passion, my true calling in life. Mantra meditations benefit you to that extent.

According to Mantra Valley, “Meditation can be a transformative practice. It is an excellent way to balance your chakras, boost self-knowledge and help pave the way for emotional healing.

In some practices, you can use a mantra to concentrate your energy, open your chakras, and develop your psychic awareness.” Repeating a mantra constantly, will plunge you deep into your conscious and bring you closer to the purpose of your life.

1 – Lotus Sutra Mantra

This is an image of a lotus flower in the water

The next mantra is my personal favorite and it is something I practice every single day as soon as I wake up. Ever since, I have been doing this, I experience everything falling in its rightful place.

This mantra is central to Nichiren Buddhism, which combines Buddhist teachings and wisdom from the Japanese teacher Nichiren Daishonin. The mantra offers devotion to the Lotus Sutra, which teaches that everyone has the potential to become Enlightened: Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo Nam: I pledge devotion Myo: To the perfection wondrous beyond conception Ho: The Dharma Renge: Of the Lotus Flower Kyo: Teaching (Sutra).

2 – Lumen de Lumine

Lumen De Lumine is the chant of the light. It helps you feel open to the world. It will immerse the participant in light. If your life is overpowered by darkness, Lumen De Lumine clears your aura and fills you in with brightness and energy. You will feel more awake and revitalized. It is the perfect balance between power and peace.

The mantra will give you the confidence you are protected from bad energies. You will feel strong, untouchable, invincible, like the sun.

Lumen De Lumine can touch anyone. You do not need to close yourself in your mind with this chant. Think of your beloved to send them positive energy and thoughts.

3 – The Om

Everyone is aware of this Mantra. Pronouced as “Ohm”, its the most sacred mantra in Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. It represents the unifications of body, mind and spirit. It is generally repeated 3 times before and after a yoga practice. Scientifically, the sound frequency of “Om” vibrates at 432Hz, which is the natural frequency of the Universe, thereby bringing us harmonically to resonate with it. Mantra Meditation benefits us in aligning ourselves with the source or God, whatever yo may believe in.

4 – Happiness and Freedom

“Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” is commonly associated with the Jivamukti Yoga School. It translates to “May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.” It is a powerful chant that focuses on living a life as a servant to the greater good. It encourages cooperation, compassion and living in harmony, not only among other humans but with nature as well.

5 – “I Love You; I’m Sorry; Please Forgive Me; Thank You”

This is the ancient Hawaiian Mantra practice known as Ho’oponopono. According to the Hawaiian worldview, it means: “Forgiveness and reconciliation practice, cleansing of ‘errors of thought’–the origin of problems and sickness in the physical world.”

And it is a real heart-opener. By repeating these words, you open yourself up to clearing the stagnant energy trapped in your body.

These four short phrases are simple but powerful. By asking for forgiveness, you open yourself up to all sorts of transformative healing energy.

    7 – Kundalini Yoga Mantra – helpful for a good night’s sleep

    Sa Ta Na Ma

Saa is ‘Infinity’ ( the totality of the Cosmos), Taa is ‘Life’ (birth of form from the Infinity), Naa is ‘Death’ (or transformation) and ‘Maa’ is ‘Rebirth.’ These five sounds help balance the hemispheres of the brain. This mantra for insomnia is a Panj Shabad (meaning five-sound mantra). The mantra is to relax and heal your mind, body, spirit and will give you a deep, peaceful sleep at night.

    8 – Mantra for self-healing

I know I am loved and supported as I move through the day.

Recite this mantra three times either out loud or quietly to yourself first thing in the morning or whenever needed. As you recite the mantra, cross your arms and wrap them around your body like you are giving yourself a big, supportive hug.

    9 – “I Want Nothing. I Do Nothing. I Am Nothing.”

This is another one of my favorites. I recite this every night before bed. It’s as though I am liberating myself for all the worldly attachments. Mantra Meditation benefits me in composing myself.

Spiritual leader and Mindvalley teacher, Sri Sri Ravi Shanka, suggests this mantra. He explains that these three ideas are the golden principles of meditation.

Sri Sri suggests that you meditate on each phrase in turn. Meditate on each phrase for a few minutes, letting your body and mind sink into each.

This liberating meditation mantra can help free you from toxic attachments.
