One place you need to check out before the Dubai fountain show is the Dubai Canal. Launched in 2017, the Dubai Canal has been one of the major attractions in the city.

This is a 3.2-kilometer-long man-made canal that runs through the Sheikh Zayed Road—the most popular highway in the UAE. This canal is inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco.

The Dubai Canal features a 12km racing track, a 3km racing track, and a 6.4 km waterfront. It also showcases 5 pedestrian bridges, 3 of which run along the canal. The pedestrian bridges give visitors the opportunity to walk across the canal while enjoying breathtaking views.

The Canal Network

The canal is divided into 3 sections. They include the green network, the water network, and the public realm.

  • The Green Network. This network of the Dubai Canal connects Safa Park to the Jumeirah Beach Park.
  • The Water Network. This network is composed of the3 separate water entities. The first one is the Dubai Canal which links Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf. The second is the Arabian Gulf coastline and the third is the Crystal Lagoon at Safa Park.
  • The Public Realm. This is the environment around the canal. Parts of it are still being developed but you can see a good number of parks and restaurants when you can go relax and catch fun.

There are quite a number of companies offering boat cruises across the Dubai Canal. Some of these cruises will expose you to the Dubai horizon and you’d appreciate the glamor and glitz of Dubai even more.

Some of these cruises will give you a chance to pass through the tech-controlled waterfall which stops flowing immediately a boat or dhow is within distance.

However, you can opt to tour the canal through an Abra. This is a very ancient mode of transportation by the Arabians, representing its cultural heritage. The Abra tours begin from the Dubai Festival City Mall and take you through the Ras Al Khor Sanctuary, Westin, Business Bay, St. Regis Hotel, JW Marriott Hotel, Business Bay Bridge, the Burj Khalifa, and the Sheikh Zayed Road Waterfall Bridge.

The abra tours end at the Dubai Festival City Mall—the point where the tour begins. The abra ride is something you should experience.

What’s more? Access to the Dubai Canal is free. There are no closing or opening times for this unique attraction. You should note that the canal has a new waterfall installed which operates between 8 to 10 pm. This waterfall operates pretty much like the Palm Fountain, displaying wonderful colors for your pleasure.

Another place you need to see before or after visiting the Palm Fountain is Dubai Marina. This unique spectacle is one of the oldest areas that was developed when New Dubai was setting up. Launched in 2013, Dubai Marina has become one of the most visited places in the city.

Dubai Marina is packed with towering structures, several boutiques, promenades, and impressive fountains. But none is more dazzling than the promenade.

This is a scenic walk that covers 7 km. Here, you can take a walk around the coast, soaking in the beautiful views. The best way to get here is to take a Dubai Metro. This is because parking is difficult and expensive depending on the amount of time you will spend here.

While you are at the Marina, there are several exciting activities you can engage in.
